Google authorship markup is dead! Google Authorship enabled the content author's details (and profile picture) to be displayed as part of search engine results pages (SERPs). As of August last year, Google has decided to stop displaying authorship details in SERPs. Google's research into Authorship markup use suggests be that it didn't really take-off and that more often than not it was poorly implemented. Google will continue to include rich snippets within SERPs.
If you haven't implemented Google authorship markup on your website, then there is point in implementing it now. If you have implemented it then it isn't doing any harm it's just not being displayed.
It is the end of Google Authorship Markup but I'm sure Google will come up with something to replace it. Watch this space...
