Politicians have been theorising for decades about how to increase political awareness and involvement as turnout to elections have steadily decreased in the last 40 years. Traditional media have not engaged the younger voters, 18-30, however over the last 5 years this has changed.
On-line and social media use by politicians has enabled them to get their message across to a wider audience. In the last US election the number of younger voters increased and this was attributed as one of the reasons for Obama's win.
South Korea has the largest internet penetration and an independent candidate recently won the second highest political post as Mayor of Seoul using an online campaign in which the funding came mainly from online donations.
The US and South Korea have high internet penetration and some of the largest online and social media penetration and could prove to be indicators for how other countries will be impacted as their internet penetration and social media use increases.to the younger voters turning out to vote in the largest numbers in recent history. South Koreans have increasingly turned to online media to get their news as the traditional media does not reflect their views or interests.
Business is increasingly turning to social media to gain brand engagement and even in the recent downturn social media is the only media that businesses have increased their marketing budgets. Small business owner's now have a great opportunity

Integrating the website with social media accounts enable business owners to drive activity to their websites via their linked social media accounts. The cost of creating this type of infrastructure is still low and there are various options that enable small business owners to develop an online presence to their own budgetary requirements and technical capabilities.
